Blackwater employees, in plain clothes, join a gun battle in Najaf, Iraq, in April 2004. Last month, the State Department renewed the security company’s contract for an additional year, a decision that enraged victims of a September shooting in Baghdad involving its employees.

"He refused to take the Americans' blood money. Mohammed Hafidh Abdul-Razzaq had been summoned by U.S. Embassy officials who wanted to make amends for the killing of his 10-year-old son. The boy died during a shooting involving employees of Blackwater Worldwide, the U.S. security firm."

Apparently there is a "culture clash" between the U.S. culture of causally accepting mercenaries killing Iraqi 10-year-olds and the Iraqi culture of not being totally down
with that awesome "foreign mercenaries all killed-up my son and stuff."

These photographs, taken by an unknown Japanese photographer, were found in 1945 among rolls of undeveloped film in a cave outside Hiroshima by U.S. serviceman Robert L. Capp, who w
as attached to the occupation forces. Unlike most photos of the Hiroshima bombing, these dramatically convey the human as well as material destruction unleashed by the atomic bomb.

A Memphis high school principal is under fire from the ACLU, accused of invading the privacy of her students by publicly revealing their sexual orientation.

Our first reaction was wow, this is unbelievable that a principal has gone this far," says ACLU attorney Christine Sun. "The constitution protects all of us from the government intruding in our private lives when there isn't a reason to do that. This was morally and legally wrong."

... Nicholas says his teachers and other students treat him differently as a result of Principal Beasley's decision and that he and Andrew have both had to deal with verbal assaults. Nicholas was also not allowed to go on a trip to New Orleans to help rebuild homes because, as one
of his teacher's explained, he would "embarrass" the school by engaging in gay affection.
